It's a "BER" month

"BER" months mean Christmas here in the Philippines. They are playing Christmas music in the stores. Decorations are starting to go up and people greet you at church with "Merry Christmas".  On the road to Bogo where they make baskets the stalls are now filled with "stars" for the holidays.

A funeral procession. sometimes they are so big it takes a long time to get around them.

If you are lucky you can catch a ride instead of walking

This part of the ride to Bogo is just as you begin to climb up the mountains. It is a watering station were the people can gather water. The women gather and wash their clothes (called Lava lava). The children play in the water, bathe, and help gather water to take back up the road for their families water supply. Some carry their water, others push it up to their place in these carts, if you are a proud owner of a vehicle you do not have to carry it.

Children bringing water containers down the road to fill.

The little hut is a waiting station where you can wait to catch the bus

One of Lilo-an's barber shops. Most of them look just like this

They are building a large mall on this site. It would be nice if it was done before we leave.
It is just around the bend from the office. The construction workers live on site as you
can see their rooms in this picture. Most don't get rooms they just sleep on the site
and hang their laundry from the construction lines or poles.

A family vehicle

This is right next to our gate. Pineapple for sale.
They were all gone within days

This is a furniture store.
All the homes we visit have this type of furniture in the homes

Probably going to a cock fight. They are the major attraction on Sundays.

DI!!! The missionaries buy their clothes at these shops which sale clothes that have been
donated by other countries. They sell really cheap and the Filipino sisters get some great looking clothes
even some of the foreign sisters find some good buys.

Beautification project.
Stick two tires together, paint them a bright color and stick a plant in them.

  1. Those pineapples look so very ripe and delicious. Ava likes the picture of the truck with the kid and rooster in the back.

  3. Those Christmas stars are beautiful! Thinking about how they wash their clothes makes me feel a little bit better about only having to make the trek to the laundry room (although I really miss having a washer and dryer in my home). It is so interesting to see how they live and how we live and what we would think if we had to go without some of our modern conveniences. Their homes sure make me appreciate my teeny tiny cinderblock apartment.
